The Surprising Ingredient That Can Keep Spiders Out The Bathroom |

Spiders aren't everyone's favourite roommate, but thankfully there are lots of natural ways to keep the creepy crawlers out of your bathroom.

According to bathroom design expert George Holland from Victorian Plumbing, the best way to repel spiders from your bathroom is by using citrus fruits. Easy to make yourself, simply mix lemon with water and spray around any moist areas that are likely to attract the insects.

"Supermarkets charge anything from £4 to £11 for ready-made spider repellent," George says. "Taking two minutes to make your own using a citrus fruit such as lemon is cheaper, efficient, more economical and it makes your bathroom smell amazing."

With autumn leaves beginning to fall, you may start to find the arachnids crawling around your home as they hunt for a mate. Spider season typically takes place from the beginning of September, so keep an eye open for any entering through cracks.

"Like all species, spiders need water to survive. That's why they are drawn to your bathroom, especially in these more arid times of year as a bathroom can be the only place to find some moisture," George adds.

As well as spraying citrus water, George suggests rubbing lemon peels over your bathroom windowsills.

"This is a favourite trick of mine," he says. "Rub lemon peels all over the windowsills or anywhere spiders may try and perch like behind the toilet or cabinets. The citrus will repel them and will give your bathroom a nice scent."
